Salicylic Acid: The ingredient that transforms your skin

SALCYLIC ACID

You've probably noticed its name on our labels: salicylic acid. But do you really know what it does for your skin? This powerhouse skincare ingredient is one of the most effective for treating blemishes, purifying pores, and revealing a radiant complexion. Here's everything you need to know.

What is salicylic acid?

Salicylic acid is a beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) of natural origin, originally extracted from the bark of white willow (Salix alba). Used in cosmetics at concentrations ranging from 0.5% to 2%, it belongs to the family of keratolytics — actives that dissolve the bonds between dead skin cells to facilitate their removal.

Unlike AHAs (alpha-hydroxy acids such as glycolic acid), salicylic acid is oil-soluble, which allows it to penetrate deep into pores and dislodge impurities at their source.

How does it work?

Salicylic acid works on two levels:

  • At the surface: it gently exfoliates the stratum corneum, removing the dead skin cells that dull the complexion and clog pores.
  • Deep down: thanks to its oil-soluble nature, it penetrates the sebum lining the pores and unclogs them, reducing the formation of blackheads, comedones, and breakouts.

It also has natural anti-inflammatory properties, which help soothe redness and swelling associated with blemishes.

The benefits of salicylic acid

Salicylic acid is recognized for a wide range of dermatological benefits:

  • Gentle and effective exfoliation: it refines skin texture and improves radiance without irritating the skin.
  • Pore cleansing: by dissolving excess sebum and keratin residues, it minimizes the appearance of enlarged pores.
  • Anti-blemish action: it prevents and reduces blackheads, comedones, and inflammatory breakouts.
  • Sebum regulation: it helps balance sebum production — ideal for combination to oily skin.
  • Even skin tone: regular use helps fade minor dark spots and even out the complexion.
  • Anti-inflammatory properties: it soothes irritations and redness associated with blemishes.

Which skin types is it suitable for?

Salicylic acid is particularly well-suited for:

  • Oily and combination skin
  • Acne-prone skin
  • Skin with enlarged pores
  • Skin with frequent blemishes

Note: if you have sensitive or very dry skin, introduce salicylic acid gradually into your routine and consult a dermatologist if needed.

How to use our salicylic acid products?

To make the most of its benefits, here are a few usage tips:

  • Start by using the product 2 to 3 times a week, then increase frequency based on your skin's tolerance.
  • Always apply a moisturizer after use to maintain the skin barrier's balance.
  • Be sure to use SPF protection in the morning, as salicylic acid can make the skin more sensitive to UV rays.
  • Avoid combining salicylic acid with other acid exfoliants in the same routine to minimize irritation.

Salicylic acid is a valuable ally for anyone looking for purified, clear, and luminous skin. Carefully integrated into our formulas, it delivers visible results within the first few weeks of use.
